We took a hayride to the pumpkin patch, but found the pumpkins that were left were slim pickins. We found one good one and then took the hay ride back and picked up another small pumpkin (we got up to 20 lbs free with the Groupon). We then wandered through the easy part of the corn maze, letting Zach pick which way we should go. He got really upset when he wanted to go the direction of the obvious dead end and we wouldn't follow him. It started getting cold very quickly and Zach was impatient so when we wandered across the entrance we decided to take the easy way out.
We also walked over to their petting zoo area where Zach had a blast. He prefers to look at animals and pretend he's getting close enough to touch them. He did pet one of the cows and a pig, but he had to make sure it wasn't looking at him while he was doing so. Unfortunately for this whole trip I forgot to bring my camera and my phone was dead. David got a few pictures on his phone that I will upload if I can figure out how. As we were leaving I needed to stop for a treat. I got something called "Caramel Apple Chips". It was a thinly sliced apple with caramel and chocolate sauce drizzled over the top and whip cream and sprinkles. It was delicious.
On Saturday we went to our nephew Dylan's football Mini-Bowl up at Weber State University. Up until this point his team was undefeated. Unfortunately they lost this game, but they all played great (Dylan got several tackles) and it was fun hanging out watching him play and spending time with family. Dylan was super excited to have David finally make it out to one of his games. He's an amazing little football player and we're so proud of him!
On Sunday we had family Halloween/Birthday party and enjoyed yummy Navajo Tacos and dressed up in our costumes for Grandma Great. I also made delicious Pumpkin Chocolate Chip cookies to enjoy the rest of the weekend. On Monday I took Zach trick or treating at Jordan Landing with my mom. We walked from store to store (and I did a little clothes shopping for myself) and got some good candy for mom and dad to eat (don't worry we'll let Zach have some too). Then we went back to my parents and hung out there the rest of the night. Zach loved to help Grandma hand out treats to the neighborhood kids which included waving goodbye out the window and telling them "See ya!". We also gutted and carved a pumpkin (it was a little late, but we were busy and just barely got our pumpkins a few days before).
We had so much fun dressing up this year (Zach loves pirates) and I'm hoping to be a little more prepared in the costume department for next year (we finished Zach's costume the Saturday before Halloween). I'm even hoping to convince David to dress up with us in the future (yeah right!). We've started some fun traditions of carving pumpkins, walking through a corn maze and pumpkin patch, and we hope to continue them in the future. As Zach gets older we'll have to add watching scary movies to our fun October activities.
He had a blast trick or treating at Jordan Landing, can you tell?
Gutting our pumpkin!
This one is blurry, but I love that sweet smile.
Our pumpkin didn't turn out wonderful. It's supposed to be Homer Simpson. Next time we'll carve pumpkins sooner than 8 pm on Halloween night and spend a little more time and patience on it.
