HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

He's one!!! Our little Zachary David turned 1 year old yesterday!! We celebrated his birthday by having a huge party at my grandma's house complete with dessert and presents. I knew his gag reflex wouldn't allow him to eat any cake so I filled a cupcake liner with whipped cream and let him go to town. Mostly he enjoyed splashing in it once it melted and giving mom a taste off his fingers. I tried to give him a bite of frosting off a cupcake, and before we knew it he was gagging. Little stinker!! Then we opened presents and boy did he get some good stuff! He got some cute clothes and some fun toys, especially the loud, noisy ones that I know his dad will absolutely love ;) He needed a lot of help opening the presents, but we hope he figured it out so he can have a blast on Christmas. We had his one year appointment today and unfortunately with that came his 1 year old shots. He had to get 4 of them, except the MA had to poke him 5 times because I guess she accidentally gave him a shot with nothing in it! He's doing much better with his weight gain and is back up to 17 pounds 12 ounces (still not back on the charts). He's measuring 28 1/4 inches long which measures at the 10th percentile, and his head circumference is still around the 75th percentile. We're waiting until his adjusted age gets closer to 1 year before we start introducing him to whole milk. I think he'll drink it just fine because this kid will drink just about anything. Still doesn't tolerate solids well, so we have a referral to a speech therapist to help with his gag reflex so we can get him eating table foods. Still spitting up a ton!!

Here's what we're loving about our little man at one year old:

-Finally crawling around and boy are we in trouble. He army crawled for about a week or so, and then one day he figured it out and we haven't been able to stop him since. He's trying very hard to pull himself up to things and we're trying to show him how to do it. Also trying to show him how to go up stairs.

-Still only has 6 teeth, we're just waiting for more to make their appearance.

-Continues to imitate everybody and is vocalizing more and more. Calls everybody he sees "da-da" much to mom's dismay. Hopefully this kid will realize soon that I'm "ma-ma", not "da-da". Loves to stick his tongue out at people and will often blow raspberries to let you know when he's annoyed with you.

-Loves to dance to music. Loves to play with his toys and loves it even more when mom or dad will play with him. Loves to play catch.

-Does not understand the meaning of no! :)

-Great sleeper. Goes to bed around 10:30 and sleeps until 10:30 the next morning. Takes 2-3 naps a day usually lasting at least an hour each time. Still has a hard time staying awake in the car.

We love this little man to death and we love to watch his personality develop every day. He has such a funny personality and he knows it too. He is an easy, happy baby almost all the time. I have never met a kid who can be smiling and ready to play the minute they wake up from a nap. We are looking forward to Christmas with him and everything the next year will bring.
