Two Months Old

Tomorrow will be Zach's two month birthday and he is growing so fast. He's caught up to be normal newborn size. He had his two month appointment today and weights 7 pounds 6 ounces and is 20 1/2 inches long. He continues to be more and more interactive and is starting to smile responsively. His neck is getting stronger and is holding his head up on his own much more. He's finally figured out how to coordinate his suck-swallow-breathe and is eating like a champ. His NG tube was getting disgusting and needed to be replaced so I pulled it out last week. I didn't replace it right away and decided to wait until he needed it before putting it back in. I haven't had to replace it yet. He's been taking his full volume plus a little extra and has been able to take his medication by mouth every time. I think he's determined to keep that tube out of his nose.

Yesterday we met with the lady assigned to him from Early Intervention. It's a state program that will help him to meet his developmental milestones and to catch up since his prematurity sets him back. He's two months old, but acts like he's just older than a newborn based off of gestation. We set his goals for the next six months and hopefully they can be achieved before then. She'll come up twice a month for now and will show me various activities to encourage his development. He should be caught up by a year old and hopefully sooner.

We're still doing good at home and trying to figure out if this little guy has a schedule. He's sleeping pretty well at night for 3-4 hours at a time, and sometimes I have to wake him up to take his 4 o'clock medication. He does, however, like to wake up around 6:30 or 7:30 in the morning and eat a small amount every hour until about noon. This is not a good thing since mom is not a morning person. We'll get it figured out eventually.

Gotta love those cheeks!
