This past month has been an eventful one for us, Zach especially, which is why it's taken so long to update.
We all went to Stadium of Fire on July 3rd and had a blast. Carrie Underwood was amazing, and the fireworks were awesome. Of course since we were going down to Provo David said we had to represent. We dressed Zach up in a pair of jeans and his U of U football jersey and Dad wore his U of U gear. Zach behaved throughout the entire concert, and enjoyed watching the fireworks. He couldn't take his eyes off them. He got a little bit mad on the drive home and we had to stop somewhere (Lehi maybe) so that he could leave his mark (spit up outside the car), and then he slept the rest of the way home. We had a blast and we're so glad my dad got us all tickets.
Over the weekend of David's birthday we took a family vacation to Bear Lake. We stayed with my mom and at her house in Paris, and played with aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents at Amy's house in Garden City and at the beach. It was a blast. Zach had a good time hanging out in his play pen at the beach and loved all the attention. The first day we were there, however, he decided he wanted to wake up at 6 am because it was so bright in the room we were in. At home we have black out curtains in his room, so on a good day he sleeps until 10. I made my mom put up curtains that day. He slept much better after that. I had a blast on the boat going out on the raft and attempting to wake board while my mom hung out with Zach. The campfires were a blast and the s'mores were delicious. I bought a lottery ticket for the first time (wasn't quite sure what I was doing), but we didn't win. Could've really used $27 million. On the way home we went through Evanston, which bumped Zach's new state total up to 2.
David enjoyed spending his birthday weekend to himself and went golfing with a bunch of his friends. He didn’t miss us one bit (or so he claims).
Unfortunately while we were gone, David got a call from his mom that his Uncle Val had passed away on Saturday (his birthday). Val is Aunt Ruth’s husband who is my MIL sister. Ruth and my MIL are the closest in age and the Wilbur family made regular trips down to Arizona to visit them. His funeral was scheduled to be the following Saturday on July 24. David really wanted to drive down to attend the funeral, and after some maneuvering on my part to get the weekend off work, and my wonderful co-workers for helping me out, we were able to make the 12 hour drive down to Chandler. This brought Zach’s new state total up to 3 in 1 week.
We left Thursday night around 6 pm and drove through the night arriving around 5:30 am. It was a good drive and Zach slept most of the way. We wanted to drive at night so that it wouldn’t be too hot in the car for Zach, and we didn’t have to stop as regularly to feed him. I wish I could say the drive was uneventful, but I got pulled over for the first time just outside of Kanab. He caught me coming down a hill going 75 in a 65, gave me a warning to slow down in hopes to avoid hitting any deer, and sent us on our way. I didn’t get a ticket either because of my excellent record, or the fact that he woke up our sleeping baby in the backseat (it was somewhere around 1 am).
We had a good time visiting with all of the family and Aunt Ruth was a wonderful hostess despite the circumstances. We left to come home early Sunday morning, around 3 am, to get back in time for my on call shift Sunday night. We plan to go back to Arizona to visit next April for a cousin’s wedding. While we were gone Zach turned 8 months old so we don’t have any pictures on the actual day, but we’ve got some that are close enough.
No doctor appointments scheduled for this month. We did have labs drawn and they looked good with no changes to his meds. Still spitting up a ton and as frustrating as it is, we’re just trying our best to deal with it. Here’s what we’re loving about Zach at 8 months old:
-Doing so much better at sitting up on his own. He still can’t stay for a long period of time, and the only way he knows how to get back to laying down is to fall backwards, but he’s improving. One of Zach’s cousins we saw in Arizona is exactly a month younger, and he’s sitting up better than she is, but she’s already trying to crawl.
-Zach isn’t even attempting to crawl, but he is able to get around by rolling EVERYWHERE. We have to keep our eye on him so one day he doesn’t roll right out the door. He will get into anything at floor level all by rolling towards it. He pivots on both his back and his stomach to get pointed in the right direction, and then rolls.
-He still doesn’t have any interest in standing up. Will only put partial weight on his legs for a small amount of time, but won’t stand straight up.
-We took some steps back in the solids department. He doesn’t show hardly any interest in eating the stage one baby foods, despite acting like he enjoys the taste. He loses interest quickly, and doesn’t like opening his mouth for food. Anything with texture (biter biscuits or gerber puffs for example) makes him gag and then spit up. Guess he’s not quite ready for those yet. Still haven’t seen evidence of any teeth.
-Loves playing peek-a-boo and his laugh is totally contagious. He continues to be a mild mannered little guy and will smile at just about anyone or anything. Loves when mom sings and dances to Lady GaGa, especially Poker Face and Just Dance. Gets really giggly and happy when he gets tired.
-Still loves playing with all of his toys, and mom promised him a new toy as soon as he starts sitting really well on his own.
-Still hasn’t started babbling, but continues to work on his vocalizations. Will say all kinds of vowels and consonants.
I apologize for the long novel of a post, but we had a lot to catch up on over the past month. Hopefully next month won’t be quite as busy.
